Eye Bank Trustees & Lions
Clubs Support Donate Life
Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley supports Lions Donor
Days at New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicle Agencies. New Jersey
Lions Clubs members raise awareness by distributing literature to
community members at motor vehicle agencies with the goal of increasing
donor designations. Pictured at an outreach event in front of the
Vineland, New Jersey, motor vehicle agency, are Eye Bank Trustees PDG
Bill Sauser of the Winslow Lions Club (far left) and PDDG Bill Hansen

17th Annual Gift of Sight Golf Classic
On Monday, August 15, 2011, LEDBV held its signature
golf outing fundraiser at the Radnor Valley Country Club in
Villanova, Pennsylvania. A delay by torrential rain and
frightening lightening (which struck a tree next to the club house -
bringing fire and police to the rescue) did not dampen the day's
activities as more than 120 golfers, auction attendees and dinner
patrons gathered at one of the finest private 18-hole championship
golf courses in the Philadelphia area.
Each year, the
funds raised at the annual event help the Eye Bank continue to
provide services to donor families and recipients, including the
un-insured and under-insured.

Salutes Cornea
Recipient
Volunteers
Rita Tucker and Joan Lytkowski first met when both
were experiencing very sick eyes and a cornea transplant was the only
way to save their impaired vision. Years ago, there used to be a
waiting list for a cornea transplant, just as there is a waiting list
today for organ transplants. Ironically, both women each waited only
four months for their transplants while others waited much longer.
And the similarities didn't end there. They had the same physician
and received a cornea from the same donor. Their bond continued as
Rita became president of the National Ambassadors for Cornea
Transpants (NACT) guiding the organization through 10 years of growth
and national recognition for supporting recipients and their
families; Joan became the next president. Both continue today as
volunteers for the Eye Bank's speaker's bureau.
"The greatest impact leading to increased
awareness of cornea transplants best comes from personal testimonies.
The work of Rita and Joan helped create awareness locally and
nationally", said Eye Bank President Jim Quirk. "Cornea
recipients who would like to tell their story help ensure no one ever
again endures a waiting list for cornea transplants."

you can tell your donor or recipient story.
